Boys:

  • Gray or black suit (no tuxedo) with dress shirt underneath.
  • Tie or bow-tie, which can be a fun print.
  • NO rings or bracelets. Rings and bracelets are uncomfortable, inhibit hand motion and clip on piano keys.
  • Nails must be clipped two days in advance.
  • Simple black or earth toned dress shoes with low heel. Absolutely no sneakers or flip-flops. Please try your shoes at home prior to the concert or bring them in if you are unsure if they're suitable to perform in.

Library Sprout and Intermediate/Advanced Recitals

  • Girls: Knee-length dress or nice top with dark slacks. Flexible ballet flats, very low kitten heels or neat, solid colored small sneakers (like Keds).
  • Boys: Dress slacks with button-down dress shirt or polo. Dress shoes or clean, "nice occasion only" sneakers (no colored sneakers).

NO JEANS, T-SHIRTS OR FLIP FLOPS PLEASE!

CPAC BLACK-TIE RECITAL

Girls:

  • Floor or tea length gown with sleeves or straps; strapless okay for junior or senior year performers. No knee length except for performers under 5th grade.
  • One sparkling accessory to catch the stage light (stud earrings, necklace, jeweled headband, glitter shoes). Just one goes a long way!
  • Black or nude tights
  • NO rings or bracelets. Rings and bracelets are uncomfortable, inhibit hand motion and clip on piano keys.
  • Nails must be clipped two days in advance.
  • No crazy hairdo's that could fall out or pins could come loose. A simple topknot, ponytail or just loose hair (with or without headband) are the three best styles for stage performance.
  • If dress is tea length, simple, flexible leather or pleather ballet flats are okay. For both tea and floor lengths, heels MUST be 2 inches max (absolutely no higher!) and the heel must be thick and have sufficient grip on the bottom. No straps anywhere, please!  All those glamorous Instagram videos of women playing in 6-inch stilettos....NOT realistic!! Orthopedic and comfort brand shoes are often best and usually come in a simple nude. Ladies, TRY your shoes before the concert, or please bring them to your lesson and ask your teacher if they are appropriate to perform in.

HUBBELS MUSIC RECITAL ATTIRE GUIDELINES:

FALL 2019 Registration is open

The attire guidelines here are based on college and conservatory standards, as well as trial-and-error from years of performing ourselves. However, we understand that it's 2019 and kids are extremely unique, so we are happy to support all different kinds of students in what they are comfortable performing in.
